The destination of this hike was the Savudrija Lighthouse, the oldest lighthouse in Croatia. There is a romantic legend associated with the lighthouse. A Count fell in love with a beautiful Croatian lady of high birth and built the lighthouse for her. But once it was finished, the lady died, and the mourning Count never set foot in the lighthouse again. I love these legends, even if they are often a bit sad.
The hike to the lighthouse was our longest so far on the trip, in human distance 14 km, but with my little legs, it is far more! The location at the coast is fantastic, and I could hop on the rocks of the beach and play with my ball. The sun was shining, the water was clear and I was happy like hell. But then the truth hit me like a hammer: we had to walk the entire way back to our camper at Monte Rosso! I really did not feel like it. Also my mom was a bit slow, always checking on her Hiking App whether we are on the correct way. And then my instincts kicked in: once I noticed that we are walking the same way back than we came, I put my sniffer navigation on autopilot. And what can I tell you? It was quicker and more reliable than the Hiking App – I always knew the direction “home” much faster than the App – hehehe! As I said in one of my prior Blogs: Trust the Dog!
